Our Mission: I.D.E.A
(Integrity, Disruption, Education, Accountability)
extendYoga celebrates humans of ALL ages, abilities, sizes, economic status, races, ethnicities, religions, genders, and sexual orientations. Yoga is for ALL– no boundaries, no admission criteria, no judgment. ALL beings deserve to be celebrated.
Structural systems of oppression such as ageism, racism, classism, and abilism have resulted in many people feeling as if they don’t belong in yoga spaces. At extendYoga, we are committed to working towards a better, safer, more welcoming space where everyone feels seen and represented.
Our commitments to our community and the world:
I – Integrity: We stand firmly in the truth that elements of oppression continue to foster societal inequities and impact resource accessibility for many communities. We are committed to taking measurable steps as we create a more radically inclusive and equitable space.
D – Disruption: We are taking active steps in disrupting systems that create barriers and inequalities:
- Karma Pass: Economic resources should not be a barrier to practicing yoga. We offer a reduced rate “Karma Pass” that is easily accessible and can be purchased online at the practitioner’s discretion. Karma Pass info.
- Repped: In line with our commitment to foster a culture of inclusion and equity in our community, we have launched Repped: An Inclusive Yoga Series. Repped classes are led by and center members of underrepresented and under-served communities. Repped classes are a time and place for practitioners to be in a space dedicated to themselves and their unique experiences. Repped info.
- Yoga Teacher Training Scholarships: The yoga space must begin to represent the diversity of the world. We offer partial and full scholarships for our Teacher Training Programs to QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and other systematically marginalized communities in the wellness industry. Learn more about scholarship here: 200HR YTT and 300HR YTT.
- DEI in Teacher Training Programs: We offer robust DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) modules in all our programs. Training future yoga teachers to recognize inequities, prioritize addressing injustice, and equipping them with the knowledge and tools to create safe spaces, is a vital part of our training programs.
E – Education: We know the path to a more just world is neither quick nor easy. We are committed to this work and will continue to educate ourselves and offer educational resources and opportunities to our staff.
A – Accountability: The key to growth and meaningful work is accountability. As we walk along this righteous but difficult path together, feedback is welcome as a learning and growth opportunity.
